Gofran Palash, Kalapara (Patuakhali): A case has been filed under the Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Act at Kalapara Police Station on charges of attempting to rape a college student by breaking into a house in Kalapara, Patuakhali late at night. On Saturday afternoon, the victim's mother, Mst. Rina Begum, filed the case against Rabbi (30), son of Md. Mostafiz Khan of the same union, and two unidentified youths.
Earlier, the incident took place at around 2 am on Friday in Chalitabunia village of Champapur union of the upazila. The victim is a HSC first year student of Dhankhali Degree College.
The victim and her relatives said that the student's father died about two years ago. For the purpose of earning a living, her mother and brother left the student at home at night and locked the front door from outside and went to the nearby river to hunt for shrimp. At around 1:30 am, two unidentified youths, including rabbi, entered the house by cutting a hole in the wall and tried to rape her forcibly. At one stage, when her screams were heard, the neighboring family members came forward and they fled.
Kalapara Police Station OC Md. Nazrul Islam said that a case has been registered under the Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Act in the police station in this incident. The student has been sent to Patuakhali General Hospital for a medical examination. Later, action will be taken as per the law.
