Hundreds of leaders and activists in Meghna upazila of Cumilla (Daudkandi - Meghna constituency) joined National Citizen Party (NCP), a new political party formed by the students who led the July 2024 uprising represents a bold attempt to redefine Bangladeshi politics.

The joining ceremony was held at the Meghna Upazila Parishad ground in the upazila on Sunday afternoon (May 17). The program was organized by the Meghna upazila National Citizen Party (NCP) unit.    Cumilla-4 NCP MP Hasnat Abdullah was present at the joining ceremony as the chief guest.

In a festive atmosphere, Cumilla-4 NCP MP Hasnat Abdullah welcomed the group with flowers and inspired by the NCP's ideals. More than 150 leaders and activists led by Textile engineer Nur Alam Sarker Mukul, a prominent businessman and social worker from Baher Char village in Daudkandi upazila, joined the NCP.

Addressing the police administration, Cumilla-4 NCP MP, said, "You should fulfill your responsibilities properly. Conduct a proper investigation of the case and bring the criminals to justice. We don't want to see the police as they were before August 5; we want to see the police in a new form." Highlighting the importance of women leadership, the NCP leader said, "Women leaders cannot be used as ornaments.

They must also be involved in decision-making. We must go door to door to explain to mothers and sisters about the politics of change. If mothers and sisters had not taken to the streets on July 36, it would not have been possible to overthrow the fascist government."

Navid Nowroz Shah, the chief organizer of Cumilla district NCP unit, spoke at the function as the special guest. Among others, Daudkandi upazila NCP unit Chief Coordinator Bhuiyan Md. Sanaullah Babul, Joint Coordinator Khandoker Omar Faruk and Joint Coordinator Asaduzzaman Tapan spoke at the function.
