Huge quantity jet fuel, edible oil seized in Ctg

Member of Bangladesh Coast Guard have seized a large amount of jet fuel, other fuel oils and edible oils in two separate special operations in Patenga of Chattogram.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan revealed the information on Tuesday noon.

Since its inception, the Bangladesh Coast Guard has been playing an important role in ensuring the overall security of the country's coastal and riverine areas, preventing drugs, smuggling and other illegal activities. Regular patrols, intelligence surveillance and raids are being conducted to prevent smuggling and drug trafficking, especially in the border coastal areas. The Bangladesh Coast Guard is working relentlessly to prevent some unscrupulous traders from creating an artificial crisis of fuel oil or illegally hoarding it, focusing on the global energy crisis.

In continuation of this, a special operation was conducted by Coast Guard Outpost Patenga in the area adjacent to VIP Road under Patenga Police Station in Chattogram at 11 pm on Monday. During the drive, a search was conducted in a secret hideout of oil stored illegally for sale in the said area and 7,000 liters of jet fuel, 6,000 liters of diesel, 1,500 liters of octane worth approximately Tk 23.35 lakh and a truck used to carry the said fuel oil were seized from the spot. On the other hand, another operation was conducted by Coast Guard Outpost Patenga at 1 am on Tuesday in the area adjacent to Akmal Ali Switch Gate under EPZ Police Station in Chattogram.

During the drive, a search was conducted in the area adjacent to the said ghat and 5,000 liters of edible oil (soybean) worth approximately Tk 9 lakh, illegally unloaded from the ship for marketing purposes, were seized.

In both operations, it was not possible to arrest anyone as the smugglers fled after sensing the presence of the expeditionary team. Intelligence activities have been increased to arrest the main perpetrators involved in fuel and edible oil smuggling and, if necessary, coordinated operations will be conducted with other law enforcement agencies.

Further legal action against the seized fuel and edible oil and the truck is underway.

The Coast Guard will continue such operations in future to prevent smuggling, he added.
