Permission sought from CJ to allow journalists in Appellate Division

Permission sought from CJ to allow journalists in Appellate Division

The Supreme Court Reporters' Forum (SRF) has once again sent a letter to the Chief Justice (CJ) requesting permission for journalists to enter the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court in order to collect accurate news.

In a letter signed on Wednesday by SRF President Masudur Rahman Rana and General Secretary Mehedi Hasan Dalim, it was stated that journalists have been barred from entering the Appellate Division-the highest court of Bangladesh-for the past four months.

As a result, journalists are unable to observe court proceedings directly from inside the courtroom and collect accurate information.

The letter said that this situation is hampering the public's access to accurate and reliable information about important judicial activities. It added that the presence of the media in a free and responsible manner is essential to ensure transparency, accountability, and public trust in the judiciary.

It was further mentioned that without access to the courtroom, there is a risk of incomplete information, confusion, or misinformation, which may also negatively affect the image of the judiciary.

The SRF also stated that they had previously submitted written requests on this issue. In addition, journalists have held peaceful demonstrations, including human chain programs, demanding access to fulfill their professional responsibilities. However, no effective decision has yet been made.

The letter requested permission for journalists to enter the Appellate Division courtroom after Eid-ul-Azha, stating: "We earnestly request your kind direction to allow journalists entry into the Appellate Division courtroom after Eid-ul-Azha. The Supreme Court Reporters' Forum is committed to cooperating in all efforts to prevent misinformation."

The letter was received by Supreme Court Registrar General Muhammad Habibur Rahman Siddiqui.

At the time of submission, the SRF President, General Secretary, and members of the executive committee were present.
