Eight robbers arrested in Cumilla
Police arrested 8 members of robber gang while preparing for a robbery in disguise of DB police in Barura upazila of Cumilla.
They were arrested in a raid in the Bora Haripur area of Khoshbas (South) Union of the upazila around 11 pm on Tuesday (May 19).
The arrestees are- Khalilur Rahman, Sohag Rana, Mosharraf Melkar of Betagi Sankipur area of Dashmina upazila of Patuakhali, Nurul Haque of Charanda village of Rangabali upazila, Harun Mollik of Baufal, Sumon of Paysar Hat area of Barisal, Mahtab Hossain Mridha of Amtoli upazila of Barguna and Abul Kashem of Tajumuddin upazila of Bhola.
Kazi Nazmul Haque, officer-in-charge (OC) of Barura police station, confirmed the matter on Wednesday (May 20) afternoon.
The arrestees were planning to carry out organized robberies on various roads and highways with the help of local robbers, wearing DB police uniforms and using their identities. Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted a raid inside a graveyard in Bara Haripur and arrested them.
At that time, 2 coats with 'DB' written on them, a handcuff, a laser light, a magic stick, a hammer, a sharp weapon resembling a Chinese axe, a knife and a steel cutter were recovered from them.
OC Kazi Nazmul Haque said, "During initial interrogation, the arrested confessed to being involved in robberies in various parts of the country under the identity of DB police."
A case has been filed at Barura Police Station in this regard and legal proceedings are underway, the OC added.
