Demanding justice in the murder of eight-year-old Ramisa, a human chain was staged in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka on Thursday.
The government has vowed to ensure exemplary punishment in the shortest possible time over the rape and murder of eight-year-old Ramisa at Pallabi in the capital. While talking to reporters at the Secretariat on Thursday, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said, "The prime suspect and his wife were arrested within 24 hours of the incident. Police will investigate the murder and submit the charge sheet as quickly as possible."
Earlier in the day, Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman directed the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner to submit the probe report within one week over the murder. Law Ministry spokesperson Dr Md Rezaul Karim said the law minister also assured that necessary steps would be taken to ensure the swift completion of the trial. The main accused, 34-year-old Sohel Rana, gave a confessional statement before a court Wednesday. In his statement, he said the child was killed after being raped. He also admitted attempting to dismember the body in an effort to conceal the crime and dispose of the remains.
According to the case documents, Sohel Rana lured the child, a student of Class II, to his flat and raped her on May 19. He later brutally killed the child, severing her body in parts before hiding under the bed and bathroom.
The victim's father filed the case with Pallabi Police Station on May 20.
