Yusuf Hossain Humayun, a former presidium member of banned outfit Awami League (AL), a member of its advisory council and a senior advocate of the Supreme Court, has died.
He passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital on Saturday, 23 May 2026. His political and professional colleague, S M Rezaul Karim, confirmed the matter in a Facebook post. Yusuf Hossain Humayun was long active in the country's legal arena and held several important positions, including former president of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association, former vice-chairman of the Bangladesh Bar Council, and multiple-time elected president of the Barishal District Bar Association. He also served as a former member of parliament.
In his political career, he was a presidium member and advisory council member of the Awami League.
Due to his long experience in legal and political circles, he was known as an influential senior lawyer at the Supreme Court. During the 1/11 political context, he served as a lawyer for former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Yusuf Hossain Humayun is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter and numerous relatives and well-wishers. His death has cast a pall of mourning over the legal profession and political arena.
