Indian High Commission pays tribute to Ziaur Rahman

India has recalled the famous radio broadcast delivered in the voice of martyred President Ziaur Rahman in March 1971.

On Saturday morning (30 May 2026), marking the 45th anniversary of Ziaur Rahman's martyrdom, the verified Facebook page of the High Commission of India in Dhaka paid tribute to him in posts published in both English and Bengali.

The post stated:

> "Today, as the people of Bangladesh gather to remember one of the nation's greatest sons, martyred President Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttom, we recall the famous radio broadcast delivered in his voice in March 1971. That broadcast inspired the people, motivated them to resist oppression, and guided them toward national liberation."

It further added:

> "Today, just as then, India stands shoulder to shoulder with the people of Bangladesh, united by a proud legacy of shared sacrifice and by a common journey toward the progress and prosperity of the peoples of both countries."
