Bangladesh Ansar and VDP Stand by Fire Victims in Kalshi Slum Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, Distribute Meals to 1,250 People

Demonstrating the spirit of sacrifice and compassion associated with Eid-ul-Azha, the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) has extended humanitarian assistance to victims of the recent devastating fire in the Kalshi slum area of the capital.

Under the humanitarian directive of the Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP, cooked meals were distributed among 1,250 fire-affected and underprivileged residents of the Bawniaabad Kalshi slum on May 30, 2026.

The initiative follows the devastating fire that broke out on May 25, 2026, which destroyed numerous homes and left hundreds of families homeless and deprived of their belongings.

Many affected residents have been forced to take shelter under the open sky and continue to struggle with shortages of food and other basic necessities.

Amid the festive atmosphere surrounding Eid-ul-Azha, the humanitarian assistance provided by Bangladesh Ansar and VDP has brought much-needed relief and hope to the affected community during this difficult time.

To ensure the smooth and orderly distribution of food, extensive security arrangements were put in place. A total of 41 attached Ansar members and 35 TDP members participated in the voluntary service operation.

In addition to its responsibilities in maintaining public safety and law and order, Bangladesh Ansar and VDP has consistently played a vital role in humanitarian assistance, disaster response, rescue operations, and rehabilitation efforts during times of crisis. The force reaffirmed its commitment to standing beside the people and serving the nation during any future disaster or emergency.

The humanitarian assistance programme was held at the Bawniaabad Ideal High School ground. Among those present were Wing Director Mr. Shuvra Chowdhury; Deputy Director Mr. Arifur Rahman, Commander of the Dhaka Metropolitan Ansar (West) Zone; Deputy Director Md. Kamruzzaman, Commander of the Dhaka Metropolitan Ansar (South) Zone; along with other Ansar-VDP officials from various police station jurisdictions.
