A tree plantation program has been inaugurated in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) following the removal of sacrificial animal waste during Eid-ul-Azha.
DNCC Administrator Md. Safiqul Islam Khan on Monday inaugurated the programme at Tejgaon Polytechnic playground and the adjoining road divider in the capital, said a press release, reports BSS.
Speaking at the program, the administrator said although some trees in the Uttara metro rail area were partially damaged due to the sacrificial animal market, the area has now been transformed into a greener and more pleasant environment through fresh plantation.
He alleged that propaganda regarding the environment of the metro rail area was spread on social media using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in an attempt to undermine the government and DNCC.
Calling on journalists to visit the area to observe the actual situation, he urged them to present accurate and truthful information to the public. Shafiqul said the tree plantation program has been undertaken to encourage citizens to engage in positive activities in the post-Eid period. As part of the implementation of the "Clean and Green Dhaka" initiative, the tree plantation would gradually be carried out in various areas, including the DNCC industrial zone, he added.
He thanked the leaseholder of the Tejgaon Polytechnic cattle market and local residents for their cooperation in the initiative.
The DNCC administrator said inspections of different markets showed that waste and infrastructure removal had already been completed in many places, while work at the remaining sites was progressing rapidly.
Replying to a question from journalists, he said the leaseholders were carrying out waste and bamboo frame removal in accordance with their responsibilities. However, if any leaseholder fails to perform their duties, necessary action would be taken from their security deposit in accordance with the law, he added.
The DNCC administrator thanked journalists for supporting urban development, urban planning and sacrificial waste removal activities through information and news coverage.
He also said it had been possible to keep the lanes and by-lanes of the capital clean in the post-sacrifice period with the cooperation of city residents and the media.
