Ivy released from Kashimpur Prison
Former Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy has finally been released from prison. She was freed from Kashimpur Prison in Gazipur on Wednesday night (June 3).
Earlier, the Appellate Division recently upheld her bail in 12 separate cases, including murder charges, related to incidents during the Anti-Discriminatory Students Movement. This removed the legal obstacles to her release.
Md. Jannat Ul Farhad, Assistant Inspector General (Media) of the Department of Prisons, confirmed the bail and release of former Mayor Ivy. He stated that the bail orders in all 12 cases reached the prison authorities on Wednesday. Since there were no other detention orders against her, she was released on bail at 10:08 PM on Wednesday night.
It is worth noting that Selina Hayat Ivy served as Mayor of Narayanganj Municipality from 2003 to 2011. Later, after the formation of Narayanganj City Corporation, she won three consecutive mayoral elections. She is also former Senior Vice President of Narayanganj District Awami League.
