Two Bangladeshi nationals were shot and injured allegedly by members of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the Bashantapur frontier in Kaliganj upazila of Satkhira district on Wednesday (3 June).
The injured are Mohi Uddin, 42, son of Golam Rabbani of Shitalpur village, and Shahin, 28, son of the late Khajer Ali Sardar of the same village.
According to local residents and family sources, the two were crossing into Bangladesh from India through Basantpur ghat in Kaliganj by swimming across the Kalindi river around 2am when a BSF patrol team opened fire on them. Both were hit by bullets and sustained serious injuries.
Locals later rescued them around 3:15am and took them to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex. As their condition deteriorated, they were shifted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment. Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jewel Hossain said it was initially learned that the two had entered India illegally and were shot while returning to Bangladesh.
