In a major diplomatic move signaling a fresh chapter in neighborhood ties, veteran political figure Dinesh Trivedi has officially been appointed as India's next High Commissioner to Bangladesh.
The High Commissioner-designate received his formal Letters of Credence from the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan. He is slated to arrive in Dhaka shortly to take up the crucial assignment.
Trivedi was a Union minister for railways and minister of state for health and family welfare during the UPA regime as a member of the Trinamool Congress.
He resigned from the TMC on February 12, 2021, and joined the BJP on March 6, 2021.
