Standard Chartered Bank CEO Naser Ezaz quits

Naser Ezaz Bijoy has stepped down from the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Standard Chartered Bangladesh (SCB). He has notified Bangladesh Bank that he no longer desires to continue in this role.

Confirming the matter, Bitopi Das Chowdhury, head of the bank's corporate affairs, brand and marketing, told The Asian Age, "Mr. Naser Ezaz intends to steps down from the role of CEO. An interim CEO will take over, subject to Bangladesh Bank's approval."

"We have meanwhile informed Bangladesh Bank about his issue. However, his decision to quit has not yet been accepted by the central bank. Until BB approves it, this remains subject to regulatory approval. If the approval is granted, he will hand over his responsibilities as the CEO," she added.

Speaking to The Asian Age, Naser Ezaz Bijoy also said, "I am stepping down as CEO but will continue as an employee of the bank." He stated  that the bank's business growth has slowed as the overall economy is slowing down. "In this context, we need a new strategy. My tenure will end in November, and I do not plan to renew. So, I think the next CEO should take care of the new business strategy. In this context, I have stepped down as CEO."

As the CEO, Naser Ezaz Bijoy has led Standard Chartered Bangladesh for more than seven years since November 2017.

Before he was made CEO, he was the head of Global Banking, according to Standard Chartered Bank sources.

Naser Ezaz Bijoy has been with Standard Chartered Bank for more than 33 years and has held several roles in Corporate Banking, Risk and Audit in Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

Under his leadership, Standard Chartered Bank in Bangladesh has reported a net profit of Tk3, 300 crore for the year 2024, which was not only the highest-ever annual profit for the bank but also the largest in the history of the country's banking system.
