Chattogram Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) AGM Monirul Hasan Sarkar has ordered an investigation and legal action against the alleged ambulance syndicate active in the Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) and adjacent areas. He gave the instructions based on reports published on social media and the media. In an administrative order issued on Monday (8 June 2026), the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADC) of the North Zone of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) was directed to conduct an on-site investigation about the allegations.
Chattogram Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court's Administrative Officer Gias Uddin Chowdhury told The Asian Age that the court issued orders to the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADC North) of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) to investigate the incident on the spot.
At the same time, the court has asked for a progress report on this directive submitted to the CMM within seven working days after the investigation is completed. The CMM order states that the transportation of patients or dead bodies using legitimate ambulances from outside the hospital or relatives' own vehicles is being prohibited. The people involved in this act are also threatening, assaulting and harassing the drivers. If these allegations are found to be true,
steps should be taken to file cases against the concerned perpetrators under various sections of the Penal Code, including extortion, fraud, intimidation and unlawful impediments and under the Road Transport Act.
It has also been said that the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Panchlaish Police Station will be instructed to take necessary action after the investigation is conducted. Simultaneously, the Chittagong Medical College Hospital authorities and the police administration have been asked to coordinate for ensuring a congenial environment so that patients and their attendants can avail transportation services using ambulances, freezing vans or any other vehicle of their choice. The directive also states that the entry of any authorized vehicle cannot be obstructed.
