Charge handover ceremony of BPS held at DU

The charge handover ceremony of the newly elected Executive Committee of the Bangladesh Physical Society (BPS) for the 2026–2027 session was held on Friday at the Centre for Advanced Research in Sciences (CARS), University of Dhaka, according to a press release.

The event was attended by a large number of distinguished physicists, academicians, researchers, and members of the Society. In the ceremony the newly elected President, former Vice-Chancellor and Emeritus Prof. of the University of Dhaka Prof. Dr. A. F. M. Yusuf Haider, former President Dr. Mohammad Shawkat Akbar, former Chairman of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) were present. Among other notable present were Prof. Dr. A. K. M. Akther Hossain, FBAS, Prof. Dr. F. Nazrul Islam, Prof. Dr. Aminul Islam Talukdar, Mohammed Nazrul Islam Khan, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Jellur Rahman, Dr. Abu Zafur Ziauddin Ahmed, Prof. Dr. Ishtiaque M. Syed, and Dr. A. K. M. Zakaria.

During the ceremony, the outgoing committee formally handed over responsibilities to the newly elected committee. At the beginning of the program, the formar President Dr. Mohammad Shawkat Akbar, and the former General Secretary, Prof. Dr. Ratan Chandra Gosh, presented a brief overview of the activities carried out during the previous term and extended their best wishes to the new Executive Board. Speakers highlighted the significant role of the Bangladesh Physical Society as the country’s premier professional organization dedicated to the advancement of physical sciences, scientific research, education, and professional collaboration.

During the meeting, the newly elected General Secretary expressed his gratitude to all members of the outgoing committee for their efficient leadership and management of the Society’s activities over the past term. He also requested their continued support and involvement in the Society’s future endeavors. 

In the concluding remarks, Prof. Dr. A. F. M. Yusuf Haider, reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the activities of the Society, sought the cooperation of all members, and thanked everyone for their support.

Finally, the newly elected committee expressed its commitment to strengthening research activities, promoting scientific excellence, and enhancing national and international cooperation in the field of physical sciences. The participants expressed their hope that all members of the Society would continue to play an effective role in the advancement of physics in Bangladesh.
