AG seeks priority hearing in death reference of Achia, Ramisa murder cases


Attorney General (AG) Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal on Sunday sought priority hearing in the High Court (HC) in the death reference and appeal of the rape and murder cases of Magura's eight-year-old Achia and Ramisa of the capital's Pallabi. 

The Attorney General made the submission before a special HC bench comprising Justice Bhishmadev Chakraborty and Justice KM Rasheduzzaman Raja.

At the time, he told the court that the state party would not seek any adjournment in the hearing of any death reference and appeal related to women and child abuse pending before this bench.  Meanwhile, another HC bench accepted the jail appeal, filed by the prison authorities, of Sohel Rana and Swapna Akhter, who were sentenced to death for the rape and murder of eight-year-old Ramisa in Pallabi, Dhaka.

The bench comprising Justice Mohammad Ali and Justice Md Saiful Islam accepted the appeal for hearing and passed the order. During the hearing, Attorney General Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal, representing the state, brought to the court's attention the issue of preparing a paper book for the speedy hearing of the death reference and appeal in the case. 

The court said a copy of the order was given to the concerned wing yesterday.
