Process underway to launch nationwide mid-day meal from next FY: Minister

The government is taking steps to launch the mid-day meal programme to all remaining upazilas of the country from the next fiscal year (FY) as part of its commitment to implementing the current government's election manifesto.

Minister for Primary and Mass Education Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon informed this in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) on Sunday replying to a written tabled question from treasury bench lawmaker Md. Mostafizur Rahman Babul (Jamalpur-3). 

The day's sitting began with Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal in the chair. Milon said the ongoing project titled "School Feeding Programme in Government Primary Schools" is currently being implemented in 150 upazilas across the country, reports BSS.

He said a proposed project titled "Mid-Day Meal Programme in Government Primary Schools" is now under process and is expected to be launched from the next fiscal year to cover the remaining upazilas.

Meanwhile, Ehsanul Hoque Milon yesterday said the government is sincerely working to distribute free school uniforms to at least 4,50,000 primary school students by the month of July.

"Within next July, free school dresses will be distributed among 450,000 students of primary schools. Besides, all primary school students will soon be provided with a mid-day meal," he said.

He made the remarks while addressing as the chief guest at a validation workshop on "Bangladesh Education Sector Analysis (ESA) 2026", organized by UNICEF at a city hotel.
