National Squash  Championship concludes

The final round of the "6th Turaag Active National Squash Championship 2026" concluded on Saturday at the Army Squash Complex in the capital with a grand closing ceremony.

Organised by the Bangladesh Squash Federation (BSRF) and sponsored by Turaag Active, a concern of Urmi Group, the four-day tournament featured more than 100 selected and winning players from 30 clubs and institutions representing 28 districts across the country. The competition included 79 male and 24 female players competing in 10 groups. The championship's final stage featured competitions across nine categories, including the Open Men's and Women's divisions, Amateur and University Student categories, as well as separate boys' and girls' categories in the Under-11, Under-13, and Under-15 age groups.

The closing ceremony was attended as the chief guest by AminulHaque, State Minister for Youth and Sports, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. FaiyazRahman, Director of Urmi Group, attended the event as the special guest.

The event was chaired by Major General Md. HasanUzZaman, NDU, AFWC, PSC, MPhil, President of the Bangladesh Squash Federation. Also present were Brigadier General (Retd.) G M Kamrul Islam, General Secretary of the Federation; Major ShafiullahMastan, Head of the Development Committee; Air Vice Marshal (Retd.) Badrul Amin, Advisor to the Managing Director of Urmi Group; and Ahmed Mansur Rauf, COO of Turag Active.
Senior officials from Urmi Group and the Federation, members of the executive committee, former and current players, and parents also attended the ceremony.

Addressing the event, State Minister for Youth and Sports AminulHaque said that continuous national competitions, grassroots initiatives to develop players, and private sector sponsorship have opened new opportunities for squash in Bangladesh.

"We want to move forward together with everyone in the coming days. If any support or facilities are required to take squash forward, the ministry will provide the necessary assistance. Our government is giving equal importance to all sports. As part of this commitment, sports allowances and sports cards are being introduced," he said.

He further added, "If a specific plan is submitted for the establishment of a squash complex, we are ready to provide the necessary support. Sports can play a vital role in building a healthy nation and keeping young people away from drug abuse and excessive dependence on digital devices. Gradually, we want to build a sports-friendly society."

Speaking as the special guest, FaiyazRahman, Director of Urmi Group, said he was delighted to be associated with the Bangladesh Squash Federation. He highlighted the immense potential of squash in Bangladesh and said that interest in the sport among young people is growing rapidly.
"Through regular national-level tournaments, emerging players are getting opportunities to showcase their talent. Urmi Group believes that a nation's future is built not only through infrastructure and economic development but also by nurturing a healthy, energetic, and competitive generation," he said.

In his presidential remarks, Major General Md. HasanUzZaman said that despite limited infrastructure and a shortage of dedicated squash courts, planned initiatives over the past few years have helped establish squash in Bangladesh on a stronger foundation.

He also expressed hope that sponsors and private sector partners would continue their support for the development, promotion, and expansion of squash in Bangladesh.

With record participation, highly competitive matches, and a successful organisation, the "Sixth Turaag Active National Squash Championship 2026" has become a significant milestone in the history of squash in Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh Squash Federation expressed optimism that through collective efforts, the country's squash sector will achieve greater success at both national and international levels in the coming days.
