Newly elected Chairman of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC Mohammad Zahir Hossain has declared that he will reorganize the bank's board of directors with neutral and competent officials. Mohammad Zahir Hossain gave this assurance while speaking to journalists at Islami Bank corporate office in the capital on Monday (15 June 2026). He was earlier serving Bangladesh Bank holding the Executive Director post.
Mohammad Zahir Hossain told reporters that all necessary actions will be taken shortly to keep Islami Bank's regular operations in good shape. On the other hand, Islami Bank Conscious Customers Forum members have demanded reinstatement of immediate past Managing Director Omar Faruk Khan. A press conference was organized by Islami Bank customers' forum convener Professor Nur Nabi Manik in Dhaka city yesterday where he put forward several points for quick implementation regarding Islami Bank management.
The bank's acting Managing Director Altaf Hossain has said that Islami Bank's main owners are its depositors according to financial regulations. All required steps will be taken to ensure the monetary safety of Islami Bank customers, Altaf Hossain further said. He added that the central bank has in the meantime aided Islami Bank with 5 thousand crore taka as liquidity support.
It may be recalled that Islami Bank was once upon a time a highly profitable bank but loan scammers and oligarchs spoiled this bank's potentialities during last several years through partisanship, politicization, illegal money transfer and undue interferences.
