Bangladesh wins six awards at China-South Asia expo

Bangladesh secured six prestigious awards at the '10th China-South Asia Expo' and the '30th China Kunming Import-Export Fair 2026', marking a significant achievement as the international trade event that concluded in Kunming on Tuesday. 

 The country's participation was recognized across four categories, highlighting Bangladesh's growing presence in regional and global trade promotion initiatives, reports BSS.

The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) received the "Outstanding Exhibition Organizer" award. 

EPB Director Mohammad Waresh Hossain and Deputy Director Md. Rafiqul Islam received the award in the presence of Bangladesh Consulate's First Secretary (Commercial) in Kunming, Ridwanur Rahman.

In the "Best Exhibitor" category, three Bangladeshi organizations - Aarong, Sustainable Bangladesh and Clay Image - were honored for their outstanding participation.

Bangladesh also received awards for "Best Pavilion" and "Best Booth Design", reflecting the quality and creativity of its national exhibition showcase. Deputy Director General of the Commerce Department of Yunnan Province, Sun Ming, attended the closing ceremony as chief guest and distributed the awards. The expo, which commenced on June 11 at the Dianchi International Convention & Exhibition Centre, featured Bangladesh as the Theme Country. The Bangladesh Pavilion was jointly inaugurated by Bangladesh's Minister for Commerce, Industries, Textiles and Jute, Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, and the Governor of Yunnan Province, Wang Yubo.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by a high-level Bangladeshi delegation, including Deputy Speaker of Parliament Barrister Kaiser Kamal, Members of Parliament Akhter Hossain, Md. Khaled Hossain Mahbub and Sultana Jesmin, as well as Bangladesh Ambassador to China Md. Nazmul Islam.

Also present were EPB Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Hasan Arif, the Consul General of Bangladesh in Kunming, senior government officials and business leaders.

Speaking at a sideline event titled "Big Market for All: Export to China", Mohammad Hasan Arif highlighted Bangladesh's export potential, investment opportunities and expanding trade relations with China.

Bangladesh recorded its highest-ever participation in the expo this year, with 175 representatives from 101 institutions taking part. 

The second day of the fair was observed as "Bangladesh Day".

According to the organizers, the expo brought together around 2,300 exhibitors from 68 countries, providing a major platform for trade, investment and economic cooperation across Asia and beyond.
