Mir Nadia Nivin made first female IDRA chief

Mir Nadia Nivin has been appointed as the first woman chairman of Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA). Financial Institutions Division (FID) confirmed her appointment in this post on Tuesday (16 June 2026) through a gazette notification. Mir Nadia Nivin is replacing immediate past IDRA Chairman Aslam Alam who resigned from this position on 2 March 2026.

Earlier on Mir Nadia Nivin was a member in the Electoral Reform Commission under the interim government. She also joined Delta Life Insurance as an Independent Director in October 2025.

Mir Nadia Nivin acquired a Master degree from California State University, USA in 2006. Later on she achieved another Master degree from Harvard University in Public Administration. Her professional career began with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in 2007. During that time she was also associated with the then Bangladesh government's Access to Information (A2I) project.

Mir Nadia Nivin worked for UNDP in Germany and New York. She worked as an election expert in Afghanistan during 2013. Afterwards she worked in Pakistan where she played significant roles in gender equity, administrative capacity-building, refugee rehabilitation and local government.

Mir Nadia Nivin was also posted to Malaysia where she worked on election procedures and fighting corruption. She also held UN positions in Myanmar and worked on artificial intelligence too.
