Coast guard seized Indian goods worth Tk 1.47cr in N'ganj

Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) seized a large consignment of smuggled Indian textiles and counterfeit goods worth around Tk 1.47 crore in Pagla of Narayanganj. Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan revealed the information on Wednesday. He said, "Acting on a tip-off, a special operation was conducted by Coast Guard Station Pagla in the area adjacent to Pagla Bazar in Narayanganj at 4 am on Wednesday. During the drive, three suspicious vans were searched in the area and a huge quantity of Indian sarees, medicines and cosmetics worth about Tk. 1.47 crore were seized, which were illegally brought into the country by evading customs duties and taxes. No arrests were made as those involved fled the scene upon sensing the presence of the Coast Guard." The seized items have been handed over to Bangshal Circle Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate for further legal action, he said.

Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan added that the Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future to prevent smuggling and illegal trade.
