BMA plays glorious roles in building up competent officers: Army Chief

Chief of Staff of Bangladesh Army General Waker UZ Zaman has said that the importance of an efficient, modern and patriotic army is immense to maintain the independence and sovereignty of the country. The responsibility of leading this army lies primarily with the officers. He further said that Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) was established in 1974 with the aim of building up dedicated, skilled, intelligent and capable army officers for the leadership of the 21st century in Bangladesh Army. Under the leadership of officers commissioned from this internationally renowned academy, Bangladesh Army is making significant contributions beyond the borders of the country and to the outside world, inspired by loyalty, discipline, fairness and a sense of duty. Bangladesh Army, guided by the motto "Chiro Unnoto Momo Shir", continues to enrich the army through the visionary planning and efficient training programs conducted by Bangladesh Military Academy. "We are proud and grateful for this contribution of Bangladesh Military Academy in the advancement of the country's defence services" Waker Uz Zaman stated.

The Army Chief made these remarks while addressing the President's Parade organized to mark the commissioning of officer cadets of the 90th long course of Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) on Thursday (18 June 2026). The Army Chief inspected the parade held at the BMA Parade Ground in Bhatiari, Chittagong and took salutes. He also distributed awards among meritorious cadets. General Waker Uz Zaman said, "You will be happy to know that due to the current changing global situation, various practical development plans have been adopted for the modernization of Bangladesh Army. As part of this initiative, the activities of the Second Bangladesh Battalion will be officially inaugurated today at the Bangladesh Military Academy to improve the quality of training of cadets, ensure modern facilities and maintain the continuity of timely training, God willing. I believe the Second Bangladesh Battalion will play an important role in creating efficient, smart and competent leadership to face the challenges of modern warfare with firm determination to preserve the independence and sovereignty of our beloved motherland."

Giving a speech to the cadets upon accomplishment of their training, the Army Chief said that through taking the oaths, the newly commissioned officers have been entrusted with the sacred responsibility of protecting the country's independence and sovereignty. After three years of rigorous military training, 184 officer cadets of the 90th BMA Long Course were commissioned into Bangladesh Army through a parade. Out of these, 166 are male and 18 are female officers.

In addition, 4 Palestinians, 1 Tanzanian, 1 Zambian and 1 Maldivian officer cadets completed their military training from BMA and will join the armies of their respective countries. Battalion Senior Under Officer Khairul Islam of the 90th BMA Long Term Course won the 'Sword of Honor' as the best cadet and the 'Chief of Army Staff Gold Medal' for excellence during the training course. Besides, Sergeant Abu Bakar, Tanzania won the 'BMA Trophy of Excellence' as the best foreign cadet trained from this academy.

The Army Chief inaugurated the '2nd Bangladesh Battalion' at BMA. The '2nd Bangladesh Battalion' has been established alongside the '1st Bangladesh Battalion' with the aim of enhancing the professional skills, leadership capabilities and all out qualities in training up officer cadets at BMA to deal with the challenges of current military phenomena worldwide. General Waker Uz Zaman also inaugurated the newly constructed Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Bhatiari; BMA Park; BMA Swimming Pool and Military Engineering Services (MES) Office Complex projects at BMA. Senior military officers of Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force also joined the programs.
