Zahid distributes free seeds, fertilizers among Nawabganj farmers
Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Prof Dr Abu Zafar Md. Zahid Hossain has inaugurated the free seeds of Aman paddy and chemical fertilizers program in Nawabganj of Dinajpur.
He launched the free seed and fertilizer distribution program at upazila parishad auditorium on Saturday as the chief guest.
Speaking the occasion, the minister said, "The agricultural sector is an important foundation of the country's economy. Therefore, the government has taken various initiatives to support farmers. If farmers survive, the country will survive. The government is providing all kinds of support to sustain farmers and will continue to do so in the future."
Nawabganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Bidhan Kanti Halder presided over the program while Nawabganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Quddus, Upazila BNP Acting President Tariqul Islam, acting General Secretary Iqbal Hossain, Nawabganj Union Parishad Chairman Nazrul Islam Fateh, officials and employees of the Agriculture Office, small and marginal farmers and many others spoke on the occasion.
The speakers at the program said that the government's agricultural incentive program is playing an important role in reducing the production costs of farmers and increasing food production.
At the same time, they expressed hope that it will play a very important and effective role in increasing overall rice production in rural areas.
In his welcome speech, Upazila Agriculture Officer Zahidul Islam Elias said, "In the current season, free Aman rice seeds and fertilizers will be distributed among a total of 4,000 small and marginal farmers in nine unions of the upazila. Under the program, 5 kg of Aman rice seeds, 10 kg of DAP fertilizer and 10 kg of MOP fertilizer are being provided to each farmer."
