The workshop brought together representatives from Urban Local Government Institutions, LGED officials, local government representatives, professionals, civil society members, and other relevant stakeholders to review and provide feedback on the Local Preparedness Plan.
The event emphasized the importance of strengthening local-level preparedness, risk-informed planning, and coordinated response mechanisms to address climate-induced disasters, public health emergencies, urban shocks, and other local risks. Speakers at the workshop highlighted that rapid urbanization, climate change, drainage congestion, heat stress, public health risks, and emergency management challenges require practical, inclusive, and locally owned preparedness plans. They observed that the LPP will help Urban Local Government Institutions identify local vulnerabilities, define institutional responsibilities, prioritize preparedness and response actions, and improve coordination among local authorities, communities, service providers, and development partners.
The workshop also focused on participatory planning and bottom-up decision-making, ensuring that the views of local representatives, technical experts, and community stakeholders are reflected in the final plan. Participants shared feedback on risk assessment, emergency response arrangements, priority actions, resource mobilization, and institutional coordination for effective implementation of the LPP.
It was noted that the Local Preparedness Plan is closely aligned with the objectives of LGCRRP, particularly in strengthening urban resilience, improving service delivery, enhancing institutional capacity of Urban Local Government Institutions, and supporting sustainable and climate-resilient urban development.
The feedback received from the workshop will be incorporated into the finalization of the LPP to make it more practical, locally relevant, and implementation-oriented. The event concluded with a commitment to promote safer, more resilient, inclusive, and well-prepared urban communities through coordinated efforts of LGED, LGD, Urban Local Government Institutions, and local stakeholders.
