International Justice Mission (IJM), Bangladesh, started its activities to prevent the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) in Gazipur on Sunday. A project inception meeting regard this was held at the auditorium of the Deputy Commissioner's office.
Gazipur's Deputy Commissioner Md. Nurul Karim Bhuiyan presided over the meeting while Md. Shahrear Nazir, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General); Md. Shohel Rana, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue and LA); and Md. Tashriful Islam, Assistant Commissioner (Treasury Section and NGO Related Activities), spoke at the meeting.
Nirmal Sarkar, Director, Dhaka Division of IJM Bangladesh, presented the organization's activities, objectives, and planned programs in Gazipur, while Roton Malo, Senior Officer of Branding and Communications of IJM Bangladesh, was present.
Speaking the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Md. Nurul Karim Bhuiyan appreciated IJM Bangladesh for conducting awareness activities against CSEC.
The DC suggested IJM Bangladesh to continue activities against CSEC and maintain close communication with District Administration.
IJM Bangladesh's Dhaka Divisional Director Nirmal Sarkar informed that the focus area of the organization's activities is to strengthen the justice system to prevent the CSEC; providing technical assistance to the relevant authorities to bring the criminals to justice; cooperating in the rescue and rehabilitation of victims; and increasing the demand for child protection.
JM Bangladesh is supporting the first responders, decision and policy makers in preventing the commercial sexual exploitation of children in Bangladesh they can implement laws and policies to prevent CSEC effectively, Nirmal added.
He also informed that IJM Bangladesh has been working to ensure the protection of six million children by reducing CSEC by 50 percent by the year 2030 in Bangladesh.
