Police officer closed over BCL activist's death

Officer-in-Charge Syed Mohammad Alamgir Hossain, Faridpur sadar, has been withdrawn in connection with the death of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activist Mirza Ishtiaque Ahmed alias Pranto (27) in police custody.

An order signed by Faridpur Police Super Nazrul Islam conveyed this decision dated 23 June 2026 (Tuesday) which came into immediate effect. 

OC Syed Mohammad Alamgir Hossain has been instructed to report to Faridpur Police Lines instantly.

Mirza Ishtiaque Ahmed Pranto's family has complained that he was picked up by Detective Branch 20 June 2026. Pranto died in police custody on 21 June 2026 allegedly following physical torture. 

Local BNP President Shahabuddin Ahmed has called upon authorities concerned to take strong action against the individuals responsible for Pranto's unnatural death.
