Coast guard stands by accident victims in Teknaf

Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard rescued and provided emergency medical services to accident victims of a passenger bus in Damdamiya of Teknaf.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan revealed the information on Tuesday night.

He said, "At noon on Tuesday, a passenger bus of Payra Service, going from Cox's Bazar to Teknaf, with about 15-20 passengers, lost control and fell off the bridge adjacent to the Damdamiya Naval Police Outpost under Teknaf Police Station. As a result of the accident, several passengers, including women and children, were trapped inside the bus and many were injured. 

As soon as the news of the accident was received, a rescue team from Coast Guard Station Teknaf rushed to the spot quickly and started rescue operations. At that time, members of Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) and Fire Service and Civil Defense also participated in the rescue operations. 

With the immediate action of the Coast Guard members and the coordinated efforts of Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) and Fire Service, all the passengers 
trapped inside the bus were safely rescued. 

Later, the medical team of Coast Guard Station Teknaf provided emergency first aid to the injured passengers. Thereafter, the injured passengers were quickly sent to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex for advanced treatment. So far, no loss of life has been reported in the said accident.

The Coast Guard will continue such rescue operations in future to deal with any humanitarian crisis including accidents, the media officer added.
