Eye specialist Professor Dr. Rabiul Hossain passes away
Chattogram Eye Hospital and Training Center (CEITC) Advisor and former Managing Trustee Professor Dr. Rabiul Hossain passed away at 12:30 pm on Saturday (27 June 2026) at a private hospital in the city due to old age complications. He was 90 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by two sons, Dr. Rajib Hossain and Riaz Hossain, grandchildren, relatives and many more admirers.
The first namaz-e-janaza of the deceased was held at Jamiatul Falah Maidan after Isha on Saturday, the second namaz-e-janaza at the Chattogram Eye Hospital premises at 9 am on Sunday (28 June 2026), and the third namaz-e-janaza after Zuhr at Kathachhara in Mirsarai, before he will be buried in the family graveyard. Professor Dr. Rabiul Hossain was awarded many national and international prizes in recognition of his human welfare activities. He received 'The Order of Merit' from the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, 'The Life Long Services Award' from the International Agency for Prevention of Blindness, 'Congress of Ophthalmology Award' from the International Congress of Ophthalmology, 'The Distinguished Services Award' and Gold Medal from the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology, 'Bangladesh Medical Association Award', 'Chittagong Lions Foundation Gold Medal', 'Bangladesh Community Ophthalmology Gold Medal', 'Honorary Doctorate' from Bangladesh Medical University, 'The Daily Star Award' etcetera.
