Activities on to preserve archaeological artefacts: Sabina Alam

Director General of the Department of Archaeology Sabina Alam on Saturday said that search, survey and excavation activities are ongoing to preserve archaeological sites endowed with history and tradition.

"We are preparing new site reports and taking land information from the district administrations to preserve archaeological sites. The gazette is under process to preserve five archaeological sites in Rangpur division. This number will increase gradually," she said. 

Sabina Alam said this while talking to journalists after attending a seminar titled ‘Rangpur Museum: Reality and Potential' at the Tajhat Zamindar Bari auditorium in Rangpur city, BSS reports.

The Director General said that excavation activities are ongoing after searching, surveying and excavating archaeological sites across the country. 
“Since the establishment of the Rangpur Regional Office, its activities have accelerated. I hope that all the archaeological sites in Rangpur division will be preserved in phases,” she said. 

Additional District Magistrate Christopher Himel Richil presided over the seminar.

Additional Divisional Commissioner Md Ashraful Islam, Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ruhul Amin, Rangpur Archaeology Department Regional Director AKM Saifur Rahman and Rajshahi Regional Director Dr Ahmed Abdullah spoke as special guests. 

At this time, various initiatives of the department for the preservation and development of archaeological sites in Rangpur region were highlighted. 

Organized by the Rangpur Museum, visitors, tourist police, and representatives of civil society were present at the seminar.

Sabina Alam, along with high-ranking officials, also visited various places and corners of the Rangpur Museum located at the Tajhat Zamindar Bari in the Tajhat area of the city.
