A 60 mm unexploded mortar shell was recovered from the border area of Bhavanipur BOP under 31 BGB of Netrokona Battalion.
This powerful mortar shell was recovered from the drain of Bhavanipur village in the interior of Bangladesh around noon on Saturday, which has created intense excitement and curiosity among the local residents.
According to BGB and local sources, on Saturday around 12:15 pm some small children of Bhavanipur village went fishing in the canal, approximately 300 yards from the border pillar 1155/10-S of the responsible area of Bhavanipur BOP (Border Observation Post). While fishing, they found heavy iron objects inside the mud. Later, Amjad Ali, son of Md. Chadar Uddin and a resident of Bhavanipur village, came to know about the matter and took out the bullet from the drain very carefully. He kept the shell in a safe place near his house and immediately informed the BGB Bhabanipur BOP Commander. On getting the news, Bhabanipur BOP Commander rushed to the spot with a BGB patrol team. There they identified the object as a highly vulnerable and unexploded mortar shell of 60 mm.
According to the BGB authorities, the unexploded shell or shell was immediately surrounded by sandbags in a safe fence to avoid public safety and any kind of accident. Currently, BGB has been deployed at the place and a strict security zone has been created.
In this regard, the captain and director of 31 BGB Lt. Colonel Touhidul Bari (PSC) said, "The mortar shell recovered in the border area is being viewed with great importance. At present, operations are underway to destroy the bomb in a completely safe manner in full coordination with the Army's bomb disposal team."
He mentioned that after the bomb disposal team reaches the spot and defuses or destroys the shell, more details will be given to the media. Now, the situation is completely under the control of the BGB and the local people have been assured not to panic.
