Manipuri Theatre's Drama Festival
A one month drama festival has been organised to celebrate the 20 th anniversary of Manipuri Theatre. With a slogan of 'Bishwya Tomay Bandhbo Ebar Apon Anchole', the festival is going to be inaugurated tomorrow by theatre personality Nasiruddin Yusuf.

A total of 11 theatre productions will be staged in this festival. Among them, six productions are from Dhaka and Manipuri Theatre will stage five productions. The whole festival will take place at Manipuri Theatre's Studio Theatre hall in Moulvibazar.

About the month-long festival, Shuvashish Sinha said, "The productions will be staged on Thurseday, Friday and Saturday evening at 6:30pm. This year, Theatre (Baily Road), Dhaka Theatre, Nagarik Natya Sampraday, Theatre Art Unit, Mahakal Natya Sampraday and Prachyanat will be participating in this festival."

On the opening day, through staging of Manipuri Theatre's production 'Kohe Birangona', the festival will start. 'Kohe Birangona' is adapted from Micheal Madhushudan Dutt's 'Birangana Kavya'. The play is adapted and directed by renowned young theatre activist and poet Shuvasis Shinha. 'Birangana' is a poem based on eleven female characters of Indian epic 'Mahabharat'.

On the next day, (October 28) Dhaka Theatre, one of the popular theatre troupes in the country, will stage its much-anticipated play 'Binodini'. Dhaka Theatre's widely popular monodrama 'Binodini' is a biographical play based on the life of legendary Bengali theatre actress Binodini Dasi. The play, directed by Nasiruddin Yousuf, depicts Binodini's rise from an entertainer who society looked down upon to a venerated artiste. Shimul Yousuf plays the role of Binodini Dasi, who made a remarkable contribution to urban Bengali theatre in its formative years.
