Continuing its drive to accelerate industrialisation and attract investment, the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) on Sunday signed two Land Lease Agreements (LLAs) with Golden Oil Mills Limited and Delta API Limited at the National Special Economic Zone (NSEZ). The agreements were signed at a ceremony held at BEZA's conference room.
Under the agreement, Golden Oil Mills Limited will invest approximately US$52.80 million on 20 acres of land to establish manufacturing facilities for food and agro-based products, frozen foods, ice cream, specialty oils and fats, packaging materials, backward integration industries, and advanced technology-based electronics. The project is expected to generate employment for around 6,000 people. The company is a concern of the renowned Golden Group and the owner of the popular Savoy Ice Cream brand.
Meanwhile, Delta API Limited will invest approximately US$12.30 million on 12 acres of land to establish a manufacturing plant for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), creating employment opportunities for around 200 people. The company has already leased and taken possession of an additional 30 acres within the same economic zone, where the necessary approvals for industrial development are currently under process.
Delivering the welcome address, Saleh Ahmed, Executive Member (Investment Promotion) of BEZA, said that both local and foreign investors continue to show growing interest in Bangladesh's economic zones. He noted that BEZA remains committed to ensuring fast, efficient, and investor-friendly services so that investors can establish industries and commence production within the shortest possible time.
Speaking at the event, Niaz Ahmed, Managing Director of Golden Oil Mills Limited, said, "Through our investment in the National Special Economic Zone, we aim not only to expand our production capacity but also to make a long-term contribution to technology-driven industrialisation, employment generation, and strengthening Bangladesh's food and manufacturing sectors. BEZA's investment-friendly initiatives have made this decision much easier for us."
He also described the National Special Economic Zone as an attractive destination for manufacturing industries, while urging BEZA to take prompt measures to improve security, utility services, and workers' housing facilities within the zone.
Md. Zakir Hossain, Managing Director of Delta API Limited, said, "We are making this investment with the goal of enhancing Bangladesh's self-reliance in the production of pharmaceutical raw materials. We believe the advanced infrastructure and supportive policies of the National Special Economic Zone will play a significant role in our long-term industrial expansion."
He also sought BEZA's support in addressing workers' accommodation needs and requested the introduction of a land lease facility dedicated to developing worker housing if required.
Addressing the ceremony, BEZA Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun said Bangladesh is no longer just a manufacturing destination but is rapidly emerging as an important regional hub for investment and industrialisation.
Congratulating both companies, he said the new investments by leading domestic business groups in the National Special Economic Zone reflect the growing confidence of investors in Bangladesh's economic zones.
He further emphasised that BEZA's objective goes beyond allocating land; it is equally committed to facilitating rapid industrial establishment, early commencement of production, and the growth of export-oriented industries by providing comprehensive support to investors. Acknowledging the existing challenges within economic zones, he reaffirmed the government's commitment to addressing those issues through coordinated efforts.
The land lease agreements were signed by Niaz Ahmed, Managing Director of Golden Oil Mills Limited; Md. Zakir Hossain, Managing Director of Delta API Limited; and Saleh Ahmed on behalf of the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority. Senior officials from BEZA and representatives of both companies were present at the signing ceremony.
