5 DB police injured during anti-drug drive in Netrakona


Five members of the District Detective Branch (DB) were injured in an attack on an anti-drug operation in Durgapur of Netrokona. 

The incident took place on the road behind a house in Maskanda village of the upazila around 9:30 pm on Saturday. 

A case was filed on Sunday afternoon on charges of obstructing government work and assaulting the police and another under the Special Powers Act.
Two people were arrested in the incident. They are Abdul Awal (55) of Maskanda village of the upazila and Ali Akbar (28), son of late Tara Mia of Zaria-Maskanda village. The injured police members are sub-inspector (SI) Haider Ali (Rana), assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Md. Shakib, constables Aminul Islam, Khokon and Ranjit Singh.

Police said that a team of DB police disguised as buyers conducted a raid to buy drugs last night. At that time, the accused attacked the police. At one stage, two were arrested, but the others fled. Later, a total of 100 bottles of Phensedyl were seized from the scene. 

District DB Officer-in-Charge (OC) Debangshu Kumar Deb said, "Ali Akbar was arrested by the police with 600 bottles of Phensedyl about two months ago. He was released on bail in that case and released from jail last Monday. After that, the raid was conducted again based on information that he was involved in drug smuggling."

"Two of the injured police have been admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. The others are undergoing treatment at the Upazila Health Complex.

Durgapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khandaker Shaker Ahmed said preparations are underway to produce the arrestees before the court.
