Petrobangla has warned that gas pressure in pipelines across the country may drop due to disruptions in the supply of imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) caused by adverse weather conditions.
A warning circular was issued by Petrobangla on Tuesday. According to the circular, until the situation improves, consumers across all categories-including residential, industrial and power sectors-may experience low gas pressure.
Petrobangla said it was not possible to carry out the scheduled LNG cargo unloading operations at the Moheshkhali Floating LNG Terminal due to the adverse weather. As a result, the supply of regasified LNG from the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) has decreased by about 300 million cubic feet per day, the circular added. Petrobangla further stated that, until the situation improves, low gas pressure may continue to affect all categories of consumers across the country.
The circular also mentioned that the two floating LNG terminals at Moheshkhali have the capacity to supply about 1,100 million cubic feet of gas per day.
However, due to the adverse weather conditions, LNG supply has fallen by about 500 million cubic feet per day. This has also placed significant pressure on the country's natural gas supply system.
