13 fishermen go missing as 3 fishing trawlers sink in Bay of Bengal

At least 13 fishermen went missing as three fishing trawlers sank in the Bay of Bengal adjacent to Kuakata in Patuakhali due to the influence of low pressure, stormy winds and rough waves. 

In addition, at least 5 more trawlers have been damaged. 

The information has been confirmed by Raju Ahmed Raja, acting president of the Mahipur Fishery Warehouse Owners Association. 

He said, "A small fishing boat trawler with 6 fishermen on board sank in the Bay of Bengal adjacent to Char Bijoy at around 1 pm on Wednesday. Although the owner of the trawler, Maskud Majhi, was rescued in this incident, a total of fishermen are still missing. In addition, a trawler named FB Mahima of Fakirhat sank at a depth of 17 kilometers in the Bay of Bengal at 5 pm on Tuesday. Although 16 fishermen were rescued on Wednesday afternoon, two fishermen are still missing.

Earlier, another trawler owned by Imadul of Kharida village of Galachipa sank at a depth of 60 kilometers in the Bay of Bengal last Sunday with 11 fishermen. Although 5 people were rescued in this incident, 6 fishermen are still missing. Kalapara Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Apu Saha said, we are searching for the missing fishermen. And the Coast Guard is conducting an operation to rescue the fishermen.
