Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) have seized a large amount of banned polythene in Narayanganj. Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan confirmed the information on Wednesday afternoon.
He said, "Acting on a tip-off, a special operation was conducted by Coast Guard Station Pagla in the area adjacent to Shibu Market in Narayanganj at around 6:30 am on Wednesday. During the drive, two suspicious trucks were searched in the area and 20,020 kilograms of banned polythene worth about Tk. 2.40 crore was seized. At this time, the drivers and helpers were released along with the truck after taking a bond.
Later, the seized polythene was handed over to the Narayanganj Department of Environment for destruction. The Coast Guard will continue such operations in future to protect the environment, the media officer added.
