Lightning kills fifth-grader in Sirajganj


An 11-year-old schoolboy was killed after being struck by lightning while fishing in a pond in Baikunthapur village of Raiganj upazila in Sirajganj on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Riyad Seikh, son of Saidul Islam of Baikunthapur village. He was a Class V student at the local government primary school.

Ahsanuzzaman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raiganj Police Station, said Riyad had gone to fish in a pond near his house during the rain on Thursday morning.

He was struck by lightning and collapsed. Locals rescued him and took him to a nearby hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Police visited the scene in the afternoon.
