Alliance Française de Dhaka inaugurated The Inner Certitude, the debut solo exhibition of artist Mohiuddin Ahmed on Friday at La Galerie. The opening ceremony was attended by eminent artist Rafiqun Nabi, Professor Emeritus at the University of Dhaka, and Prof. Syed Abul Bark Alvi, alongside artists, art enthusiasts and cultural personalities.
The exhibition marks a significant milestone in Mohiuddin Ahmed’s artistic journey, presenting a carefully curated collection of works produced over the past several years. Through a distinctive visual language that seamlessly blends realism, symbolism, and surrealism, the artist explores the complex interplay between the external world and the inner realms of memory, imagination, and human experience.
Working primarily with pen and pencil, complemented by acrylic and watercolor, Ahmed demonstrates remarkable technical precision and craftsmanship. His compositions are built from thousands of meticulously rendered dots, intricate linear structures, geometric forms and striking contrasts of light and shadow, resulting in visually rich works that invite prolonged contemplation.
Rather than reproducing reality, Ahmed transforms familiar forms into symbolic narratives. Cities emerge within elephants, mysterious faces inhabit a globe, while everyday objects evolve into layered visual metaphors. These imaginative compositions encourage multiple interpretations, prompting viewers to reflect on themes of identity, memory, resilience, desire and the subconscious through their own perspectives.
At the heart of The Inner Certitude lies the conviction that imagination is not an escape from reality but a powerful means of understanding it more profoundly. Through poetic imagery and thoughtfully constructed compositions, the exhibition creates a dialogue between the external world and the human psyche, demonstrating how art can illuminate emotions and ideas that often transcend language.
Open to the public from 10 to 15 July 2026, The Inner Certitude offers visitors an opportunity to engage with a compelling body of work that celebrates the transformative power of imagination through a deeply personal and evocative visual language.
