Editors, heads of news and senior journalists of private television channels have called for regular institutional training for journalists on modern journalism, including digital journalism, AI, data journalism and fact-checking. The call was made at an exchange of views meeting organized by Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) at its auditorium on Saturday. The participants stressed ensuring transparency, accountability and neutrality in providing DRU membership, prioritizing genuine professional journalists, strengthening the organization's financial capacity and taking initiatives to build the DRU Complex. NTV Head of News Fakhrul Alam Kanchan emphasized regular training programmes to improve journalists' professional skills.
RTV Head of News Ilias Hossain called for expanding mobile journalism training and building the DRU Complex.
Channel i Head of News Zahid Newaz Jewel suggested establishing a DRU Training Institute to provide courses on AI, investigative journalism, fact-checking and data journalism.
Other editors also highlighted the need for training on language, presentation, pronunciation, health journalism and digital content creation.
The meeting was chaired by DRU President Abu Saleh Akon and moderated by General Secretary Mynul Hasan Sohel.
DRU leaders said the recommendations would be considered in future action plans to build a stronger, modern and journalist-friendly organization.
Executive committee members and senior journalists from different television channels attended the meeting.
