Two children swept away by torrential rain in Cox's Bazar


Two children were swept away by a torrential rain in Chakaria and Pekua, Cox's Bazar. The incident took place on Saturday.

These two children are Sujit Das (12) of Jaldaspara in Koiyarbil Union of Chakaria Upazila and Mushfiqur Rahim, a 19-month-old child from Bolirpara area of Sadar Union of Pekua Upazila.

Sujit is the son of Tufan Das of Jaldaspara, Chakaria. He has been missing since he was swept away. And Mushfiqur is the son of expatriate Nasir Uddin. His body has been recovered.

With this, the death toll from floods, landslides and landslides has reached 46. According to some locals of Jaldaspara in Chakaria, a rural road has cut through their neighborhood. On one side of the road is a fish pond, on the other side is a locality. Flood water from the locality flows over the road, through the fish pond, and into the Matamuhuri River. Sujit and three others were returning home on the road. Sujit was suddenly swept away by the current and fell into the fish pond. He has been missing since then.

On information, fire service personnel reached the spot but rescue operation could not be carried out due to the high current and the absence of a diving team. 

Meanwhile, residents of Pekuar's Balirpara area said that Mushfiqur's body, which was swept away by the current, was found by his uncle at around 9:30 pm on Saturday. 

When he was taken to the hospital, the doctor on duty declared the child dead.

Pekua Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Rafiqul Islam confirmed the news of the child's death.
