BSA celebrates monsoon with Nazrul music evening

The Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy held a cultural evening featuring the poems and songs of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam titled Barshay Nazrul at the National Theatre Hall of the academy in Dhaka on Wednesday.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the event celebrated Nazrul’s philosophy of human liberation, equality and natural beauty, according to a press release.

The BSA artistes began the event with a group dance to the song titled Rimi Jhimi Rimi Jhimi Man Deya Barshe, followed by BSA vocalists performing collective renditions of ‘Dao Shaurja Dao Dhariya’ and ‘Megher Damru Ghan Baje’. 

Nazrul artistes, including Fatema Tuz Johra, Ferdous Ara, Salauddin Ahmed, Bijon Chandra Mistry, Khairul Alam Shakil, Mahbuba Akhand, Shahid Kabir Palash and Mousumi Iqbal performed songs while recitation artistes Salauddin Ahmed, Mahbuba Akhand and Mousumi Iqbal recited Nazrul poems at the event.

Group dances were performed by the Nrityalok Cultural Organisation and Srishti Cultural Centre.

Following a welcome speech by BSA director general Rezauddin Stalin, the event was attended by cultural affairs secretary Kaniz Maula, among others.
