Detective Branch (DB) Chief Shafiqul Islam on Thursday (16 July 2026) warned that strict action would be taken against anyone attempting to misuse the July Uprising by filing false police cases against innocent people.
Speaking at a press conference in Dhaka city, the DB chief said that law enforcement agencies would not allow any individual or group to exploit the historic movement for personal, political, or other unlawful interests. He stressed that cases must be filed based on genuine evidence and proper investigation rather than false allegations.
"Legal action will be taken against those who try to misuse the July Uprising by submitting fabricated cases or harassing innocent citizens," Shafiqul Islam said at the briefing. He added that the authorities were committed to ensuring justice and protecting the rights of all individuals. The DB chief said investigators would carefully examine complaints before taking further steps. He noted that while those responsible for crimes must face legal consequences, innocent people should not suffer due to false accusations.
He urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and provide accurate information to help ensure fair investigations. According to him, maintaining transparency and accountability in the case-filing process was essential to preserving public confidence in the justice system.
Shafiqul Islam also said the DB was monitoring the situation closely and would take necessary measures to prevent any attempt to create disorder through the misuse of legal procedures. He emphasized that the police would follow the law while dealing with all complaints related to the July Uprising.
The warning came amid concerns that some individuals might attempt to take advantage of the movement's significance by involving unrelated people in criminal cases. The DB chief assured that genuine victims and those responsible for unlawful activities would be treated according to the law, while false complainants would also face consequences.
The press conference was attended by senior officials and members of the media. The DB chief's remarks highlighted the authorities' position that justice should be based on facts, evidence, and due legal process rather than false claims or personal motives.
