Cumilla Police Super (SP) Anisuzzaman on Thursday criticised Chhatra Dal leader Fakhrul Islam for what he described as an attempt to label political opponents and create unnecessary controversy through public statements.
The police chief made the remarks while addressing the issue of political tagging and the impact of such allegations on maintaining peace and stability in society. He said that making accusations against individuals or groups without proper evidence could contribute to misunderstanding, tension and conflict among people.
SP Anisuzzaman urged political activists and leaders to show responsibility in their statements and actions, particularly when communicating through public platforms. He said that law enforcement agencies remain committed to ensuring a peaceful environment for everyone and would take necessary steps if any activity threatened public order.
The remarks came after Chhatra Dal leader Fakhrul Islam allegedly made comments that were seen by some as identifying or branding political rivals. The issue drew attention among local political circles, with discussions emerging over the role of responsible political communication.
The Cumilla police administration reiterated that political differences should be addressed through democratic discussion and lawful activities rather than through accusations or attempts to create divisions. Officials said that all citizens have the right to express their views, but those rights should be exercised within the boundaries of law and social responsibility.
Political observers said that disputes involving allegations and counter-allegations are common during periods of heightened political activity. They stressed the importance of maintaining respectful dialogue among rival groups to prevent unnecessary confrontation.
Fakhrul Islam and representatives of his organisation were expected to respond to the criticism and clarify their position regarding the remarks that led to the controversy.
The police chief's statement has added to the ongoing discussion in Cumilla about the responsibilities of political leaders and activists in maintaining a peaceful atmosphere. Authorities said they would continue monitoring developments and take action according to the law if required.
Residents and community leaders have also called for restraint from all sides, saying that stability and public safety should remain the priority regardless of political differences.
