Ghanaghata-2 brings monsoon magic to DU

Dance artistes celebrated the beauty of the monsoon through music and movement at “Ghanaghata-2”, a vibrant open-air dance festival held at the Bakultala of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University on Friday. Maps Organised jointly by Arthy Ahmed Dance Academy and the Faculty of Fine Arts, the programme began at 11:00am, bringing together more than 300 amateur dancers aged between three and 70.

Set against the backdrop of the rainy season, the performances showcased the richness of Bengali culture and traditions, drawing a large audience to the iconic venue.

The festival featured a series of choreographed performances inspired by the rhythm, colours and emotions of monsoon, with dancers in colourful traditional attire performing under the open sky.

Adding a humanitarian dimension to the celebration, the organisers also partnered with JAAGO Foundation to raise funds for people affected by recent floods in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Two mobile donation booths were set up at the venue, where visitors voluntarily contributed to the relief effort.

The organisers said the event aimed not only to celebrate the cultural significance of the monsoon but also to promote compassion and social responsibility through collective action.

'Ghanghata-2' transformed the Bakultala into a lively cultural arena, blending dance, music and community spirit in a celebration of Bangladesh's monsoon heritage.
