Dengue: Hospital admissions top 10,000

One person has died of dengue over in 24 hours, while 242 more patients have been admitted to hospitals with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the total number of dengue patients admitted to hospitals across the country this year has reached 10,012.
DGHS data shows that 33 people have died of dengue so far this year, including 15 deaths recorded in July alone.
In its bulletin issued on Sunday, the DGHS said the 242 new hospital admissions were recorded in the 24 hours until 8am on Sunday.
Of the newly admitted patients, 77 were admitted to hospitals in the Dhaka North City Corporation, while 35 were admitted to hospitals in the Dhaka South City Corporation.
Another 21 patients were admitted to hospitals outside the two city corporation areas in Dhaka.
Among the divisions, 10 patients were admitted in Barishal, 38 in Chattogram, 40 in Khulna, and 21 in Mymensingh.
During the same 24-hour period, 241 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals.
According to the DGHS, from Jan 1 to date, a total of 10,012 dengue patients have been hospitalised nationwide, of whom 9,067 have recovered and been discharged.
It has maintained records of dengue-related hospital admissions and deaths since 2000.
The country's worst dengue outbreak came in 2023, when 321,179 people were hospitalised with the disease and 1,705 died, the highest annual death toll on record.
Last year, more than 400 people died of dengue, while the number of confirmed cases stood around 102,000.
