12 grassroots women in Kalapara received fish farming equipment in household ponds

Gofran Palash, Kalapara (Patuakhali): 12 grassroots women  in Kalapara of Patuakhali received fish farming equipment in household ponds. Kalapara UNO Md. Arifuzzaman, as the chief guest, handed over the fish farming equipment to the beneficiary fish farming women at the office of the Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer on Monday afternoon.

Kalapara Assistant Commissioner (Land) Yasin Sadek, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Apu Saha, along with officials and employees of the upazila administration and members of the families of fishermen, were present at the time, among others.

According to the Upazila Fisheries Officer's Office, under the Union-level Fisheries Technology Service Expansion Project (Phase 3) in the fiscal year 2025-26, 1 sack of kheil, 6 sacks of fish food, 10 tree seedlings, 5 packets of vegetable seeds, 1 coil net and 2000 pieces of fish fry have been distributed to 12 women each at the union level under the Pond Fisheries Demonstration Project.

Beneficiary fish farmer Mst. Jahanara Begum (42) of Champapur Union of the upazila said, 'My family was somehow running through poverty and hardship. Then, after receiving training in fisheries, I started fish farming in my home pond. With the advice and overall supervision of the Fisheries Office, I saw a profit after deducting all the expenses in the first year. This gave me a lot of courage in fish farming. Today, I received many free fish farming materials from the office again. If there is no disease or disaster, I hope that when the fish grow up, I will sell them and get a good price.'
