Sajjad Mahmud spotlights on Ansar-VDP roles in keeping up peace
The Director General of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP), Major General Abdul Motaleb Sajjad Mahmud delivered an important presentation titled "The Role of Ansar-VDP in Peace and Wartime" to officers participating in the ongoing course at the invitation of the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), located in Mirpur Cantonment, Dhaka, on 21 July 2026.
A total of 353 officers attended the event, including personnel from the Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Air Force, Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party, and Bangladesh Police.
In his presentation, the Director General highlighted the glorious history of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party, the remarkable contributions of its members to the Language Movement and the Liberation War of 1971, as well as the Force's continued role in national security and public welfare in the post-independence period.
He provided a detailed overview of the deployment plans, responsibilities, and operational roles of various tiers of Ansar and Village Defence Party members during both peacetime and wartime. He also briefed the participants on the Force's organizational structure, operational capabilities, current challenges, and future prospects.
During his presentation, the Director General emphasized that the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party has been carrying out its responsibilities with professionalism, dedication, and efficiency for many years in a wide range of nationally significant activities. These include maintaining law and order, ensuring public safety, protecting key government and strategic installations, safeguarding state assets, responding to disasters, performing election-related duties, and contributing to social security. With its extensive membership reaching the grassroots level across the country, the Force continues to serve as a vital auxiliary component of the national security framework.
Following the presentation, the Director General responded to various questions from both domestic and international officers during an interactive question-and-answer session. The informative, engaging, and insightful presentation provided the participants with a comprehensive understanding of the strategic role, operational capabilities, and significant contribution of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party to national security in both peace and wartime.
At the conclusion of the programme, the course participants expressed their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the Director General for his valuable presentation.
