The Bangladesh government has relieved three full-time members of the University Grants Commission (UGC) from their positions. According to a notification issued on Sunday (26 July 2026) by the Private University-1 Branch of the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education, the decision was made in the public interest with the approval of the appropriate authority.
The officials who have been relieved of their duties as full-time UGC members are Professor Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossain of the Department of Sociology at the University of Dhaka, Professor Dr. Md. Saidur Rahman of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Professor Dr. Mohammad Ayub Islam of the Department of Accounting at the University of Chittagong.
Professor Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossain was appointed as a full-time member of the UGC for a four-year term in September 2024. In December of the same year, Professor Dr. Md. Saidur Rahman of BUET joined the Commission as a full-time member, also for a four-year term.
